I wonder if anyone else thinks it’s funny that the Yaz birth control pill commercial uses Twisted Sister’s song We’re Not Gonna Take It. I find it funny that a song of rebellion is recreated and toned down so that women can rebel against that time of the month (which is the whole theme of the commercial). The whole point of this post is song ownership and licensing. I find it hard to believe that Dee Snider would agreed to this. I am wondering if this is one of those instances were the rights of the song have reverted back to the record company. Of course, the record companies only caring about money and not about the art, will just license the crap out of songs for more money. I will be so glad when the record industry business model goes away.
I personally liked the way Trent Reznor did the new Nine Inch Nails album Ghosts. This is the way music should be done now. Music equipment is getting cheap enough to allow musicians without a lot of money to make high quality recordings. Granted, the ability to make high quality recordings doesn’t mean they will come out that way. At least the opportunity is there.
On another note, I wonder if Dee Snider would object to that fact that my high school class used We’re Not Gonna Take It as our official graduation song. Now that I think of it my graduating class was a bit weird.
Is that Mitzi Martin walking down the city street in that commercial for Yaz birth contol pill? I have a bet and I want to win.
Hi there, I fell lucky that I located this post while browsing for graduation song. I am with you on the topic of Yaz Birth Control Pill. Ironically, I was just putting a lot of thought into this last Saturday.
